I was so very lucky to have spent the day collecting ideas for this portion of the site and to have met so many talented and wonderful people. I loved hearing about everyone's collections that ran the gamut from books to stickers to kitchen utensils. I also met a few of you who weren't sure that they collected anything specific, but knew that their sister/cousin/ex-boyfriend would be psyched to upload pictures of their own collections to the site. To hear other people be excited about our idea brought smile after smile to my face.
My best take-away was the realization that the struggles we have with starting all of this up aren't unique. I learned how normal it was too feel like there aren't enough hours in a day, overloaded on information, and a bit lost in the tech world. My plan for this portion of the site is starting to come together and I now I can't wait to get to work on it.
If we met during BlogHer Boston, leave a comment and let us know how yesterday was for you. Also, if you want to get to know me better you can also check out my personal blog here. Thanks again for making yesterday a great day.
and don't forget...if you are a collector, make sure to register!
Check out his collection here and then head over to How's Your Edge to read his interview.
Do you want to be featured on the CollectionSpace and HowsYourEdge.com? You can! Upload your collection to the CollectionSpace and tag it with HYE? and Brian might just contact you for an interview!
Have something to say? You can leave a comment, email admin@thecollectionspace.com or use the feedback link at the top of the page. We want to hear from you!
Stefansonic, Collection Space user and avid record collector has been interviewed at HowsYourEdge. Check out Stefansonic's collection here. Head on over to How's Your Edge to read the stories about this ever-growing vinyl collection. I have to admit that I was stunned, he has upwards of 3000 records in his small NYC apartment!
Also cool....you too can have your collection featured on How's Your Edge and the Collection Space. Read this post for more details, but all you need to do is upload your collection on the Collection Space and tag it with "how's your edge". Brian at HYE? will be looking at the collections every week and choosing a collector to interview.
Thanks B. Murphy for all your hard work! And thanks Stefansonic for being out first featured collection.
Have Questions or feedback? You can email admin@thecollectionspace.com or use the feedback link at the top of the page. We want to hear what you have to say!
Thanks to your suggestions and feedback, we have implemented commenting across the site. After a small bit of debate here, each collection item is now ready to receive and record your thoughts. Just log in and you're ready to roll. The most recent remarks are viewable on the home page in the "Recent Comments" window over to the right.
You can keep track of your comments by clicking on the new "comments" link in the "My Page" tab. This keeps track of the comments you've received as well as the one's you've posted all in a nice tidy list. With any luck, you're like me and you love lists too.
And a quick FYI...you can now search by User Name. It's a good thing to keep in mind when you are browsing and want to know if someone has posted multiple collections.
That's all for tonight but there are more changes to come shortly!
Melissa
Thanks to everyone who has been testing out the site so far. Since going live last week we've had a chance to find and fix a bunch of issues, and it's all thanks to you!
This is just a reminder that we want to continue to hear from you!
There is a handy feedback link in the top right corner of the screen, which was built for you to use to your heart's content. Be warned, it may not actually make your heart content but I encourage you to try it out anyway. Then again, you may thoroughly enjoy pointing out any broken links, words we've misspelled, or just dropping a line or two with a suggestion. If that floats your boat, then by all means, go for it!
Happy Collecting
~Melissa
Why register?
By registering, you can keep tabs of your favorite collections. You can also choose to be notified when someone adds to their collection. Registering is also the first step to adding your own collection, and we know you want to do that too. :)
As usual, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please send an email to admin@thecollectionspace.com
Thanks,
Chris
Our goal is to give every user an online showcase, no matter what they collect. Do you share our love of collecting something, anything? Whether its Obey Giant prints, Nike Dunk SBs, fine European china, or Civil War relics, there is space here for you to show your goods.
We are still testing, changing and making this space more user friendly for all, but we could't hold back any longer. The one thing that will make the collection space great is YOU.. well you.. and your collections!
You can start today by logging in, creating a collection and uploading your first items. Once you create your first collection, you'll have plenty of opportunities to create titles, captions, and tag your pics. These additional details will make them easily found on the site through our search function. And each collection that is started on the CollectionSpace has its own public link, so you can share your collection anywhere on the web.
Go ahead, login, and start to upload your collections. It's time to show the world what you've got!
We are always willing to listen and answer any questions, leave a comment or drop us an email, admin@thecollectionspace.com. Your feedback will keep us heading in the right direction.
Happy collecting! ~the CollectionSpace team
So we are moving away from the idea of traditional hierarchical categories in favor of a more "open" tagging system which will have dichotomous (and synonymous) views on to it.
What does this mean to you? Well you can easily categorize your items into multiple places instead of requesting we create a new category/subcategory for you to put your collection. This means for instance if you collect vintage volkswagen toys you can simply tag it as "volkswagen, vintage toys, car toys" and it will show up in searches etc. when appropriate.
